This is my first meme ever, you guys!
So here is my influence map, as originally found here: [link]
I wanted to really focus on the things that actually influence my artwork, not just things that I really like. So in spite of being a huge fan, Transformers isn't here. I also thought about the things don't just influence how I draw, but also things that influence why I draw.
1: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - This is definitley the biggest influence. The cartoon captured my imagination as a kid and inspired a lot of artwork. Finding out that it was an underground comic book first made me want to do that too.
2: Bruce Timm - One of my favorite artists. Groundbreaking style with great storytelling. Justice League is one show I can watch over and over again and always get inspiration from.
3: Samurai Jack - In my opinion, the greatest cartoon ever made. The imagery does so much with so little, and I love its anything-goes attitude with all the crazy characters Jack runs into.
4: Anime - Rather than list off a whole bunch of specific series, I'm just going to say that the history and culture of Japanese animation as a whole has been a huge influence in both my drawing and how I look at the world. It gave my artwork focus while still expanding my view on what is possible. I included pictures of a few of my favorites. Can you name them?
5: Street Fighter - The artwork and the variety of characters from this series has always struck a chord with me.
6: Scott Pilgrim - Proof that "It can be done".
7: Ninjas - Ninjas are awesome, and I'm not just saying that. Look into it for real. They are some really inspiring historical figures.
8: David Bluestein - A mentor who took me under his wing and taught me so much about drawing, then gave me the opportunity to teach others. This artwork comes from a pin-up he illustrated that was published in Spawn #53.
9: Star Wars - Gave me an interest in aliens, robots, space ships, and all the cool stuff in the galaxy.
10: Mario - Much of my childhood was spend playing Mario games, and when I wasn't doing that I was drawing Mario characters in my own adventures. I did it so much that I got in trouble at school, but I gained so much skill and experience from it.
11: Osamu Tezuka - Of course, the God of Manga is a major influence. He's the greatest of all time, lived an amazing life, and there is always something new to learn from everything he's ever done.
I could probably go on but that's good enough for now. Ask me about something if you want.
