Because of the overwhelmingly positive response to my Justice League of Anime artwork [link] I decided to revisit the concept and draw them again, only this time with my own composition.

Cyborg 009, Cutie Honey, Lupin III, Goku, Sailor Moon, Captain Harlock, and Astro Boy: The ultimate team of anime heroes, united against tyranny and oppression! The Justice League of Anime!

This time around, I wanted to unify the character designs with some inked line art, and then give them some slick, cel-shaded colors with up to 5 tones. Most modern anime doesn't have that many layers of color anymore, but this is special so I went for it.

****SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!*****

I WILL draw the Anime Injustice Gang! And it will be an image in the same style as this one. Please read my journal [link] and nominate the anime villains that you think should join forces to fight the anime Justice League. Please post your suggestions by replying to the journal, not here! Maybe I will use your suggestions when I do the Injustice Gang artwork, and you'll see it right here on deviantART. Thanks and have fun.

Very cool. I'm usually not into anime, but the Justice League theme caught my attention. Great job with the shading, I've been trying to do the same with Photoshop Elements 7. If you have any tips, let me know.

Each color is on a seperate layer, and each shade and highlight is a seperate layer above that color and set to clipping mask. That way if I change my mind in case a color is too light or doesn't have enough contrast, I can change it. Hope that helps a little.
